Detroit’s Big Three get $25B, what now?

I’m sure the bigwigs at the Big Three are breathing a sigh of relief today. Detroit’s Big Three have the money!  Sorry I mean the loan.  Although they didn’t get the $50B that they had requested, getting $25 B is no small feat.  (Surprisingly even though $25B in loan isn’t pocket change, there was barely any coverage in the news media about this bill that the President passed into law. When did we become this sensitized?)

Although the money won’t be in their hands for a couple of months, the Big Three better be making good use of their time to make some solid plans.

Across the country, a large majority of people are of the opinion that the Big Three did this to themselves and don’t deserve to be helped.  Even die hard supporters of the Detroit Big Three shake their heads saying “they knew this was going to happen”. I’m one of those die hard supporters and I also believe that this problem is of our own making.

But let’s look into the future.  The writing on the wall is clearer now (assuming it wasn’t clear for the past 15 years).  I hope that they make the right decisions so that we do see vehicles that are fuel efficient, run on alternate fuels, and small.  Their motto should be “THINK BIG, DESIGN SMALL”. Hey, that’s a pretty good slogan huh?

So that they don’t lose sight of the end game, I also think that the Big Three should print and frame today’s sales numbers in large oversized frames. Then they should hang these frames everywhere for every employee to see daily.  That way they know that if they lose their jobs tomorrow, they can’t claim “we didn’t know this was going to happen”.
